Plagiarism is a form of cheating. To plagiarize is "to steal and pass off the ideas or words of another as one's own, use a created production without crediting the source, commit literary theft, or present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source" (Merriam-Webster's College Dictionary, Tenth Edition, Springfield, MA: Merriam Webster, Inc. 1993). Plagiarism is intellectual theft, a serious academic offense with serious consequences to be determined by the instructor and Department Chair.
